A few Mods...more to come

Post by TC on 1/27/2009, 9:03 am

First topic message reminder :

I added 12 volt plugs on both sides of the bed. Comes in handy for things like mattress warmer, CPAP, etc.

url=http://www.servimg.com/image_preview.php?i=65&u=12289969]

Ordered an extra handle from FR to match the one next to outside door so we could grab onto something going up the stairs to the bedroom level. Sure makes a huge difference. And was extremely easy to install!

Two images of the TV slide shelf I installed last year. Notice the Rite Temp digital thermostat? Makes a HUGE difference in temp regulation! Also...in the second pic, you can see the vent I added beside the Concertone to prevent overheating. It did the trick!

We added motion lights throughout the Cat so we wouldn't bump into things in the middle of the night. Worth every penny.

These mods are just the tip of the iceberg. Have many more to share. Will post more pictures as the weather cooperates.

TC wrote:Morning Cory, What I installed was a Rite Temp 8035C, purchased at Lowes. I followed this wiring guide:

According to this, I can put the lo-fan and cool under the same terminal, so the lo-fan always comes on with the a/c. Then I can use the fan auto/on switch to control the hi-fan function.

CAUTION: Make sure all power to your HVAC system is shut OFF at the breaker before proceding.

The first step to properly wiring your new thermostat is to carefully label the existing wires from you old thermostat.

If it's too late and you have already disconnected them from your old thermostat. CLICK HERE

Place cooresponding labels (included in your Ritetemp thermostat package) on the wires. Listed in the table below are the wires commonly found in home installations and what they do.

Once they are labeled remove the wires from the terminals of the old thermostat. Be careful not to touch the bare wires together when handling them, this could damage your HVAC system. Make sure the wires do not fall back inside the wall. Winding them around a pencil to keep them from falling back in works well. You can fill wall opening with fiber glass insulation to prevent drafts.

When all your wires are correctly labeled,CLICK HERE Common Wire Names:R or RH - HEATER TRANSFORMER
W - HEATING CONTROL

G - FAN RELAY
C - 24 VAC COMMON (optional)*
Y - COOLING COMPRESSOR
RC - COOLING TRANSFORMER
O - DAMPER OR CHANGEOVER VALVE (POWERED IN COOL)
B - DAMPER OR CHANGEOVER VALVE (POWERED IN HEAT)
* The optional C-wire should be connected if available, it will extend your battery life significantly.NOTE: If the wire names here do not match the wires you have CLICK HERE

TC - Kind sir. Could you take the cover off the thermo and take a picture of the wire connections. Can I ask you to post it here. That is all the instructions I need. Thank you.

Dan, good news...

In response to your post and pm, I did some research and found the manufacturer and model # for the TV swivel:

Fulterer tv swivel # FR815

I did a google search and they are still made and sold. Hope this helps.

As for the wiring on the Rite Temp, if you can hold out a bit, I'll be glad to do this for you. For the time being, I'm not able to open the slideout where I can get to the thermostat unimpeded.

TC - Thank you very much for the info. It it much appreciated. Anytime U can get the slide open is cool by me. I have lived with funky thermo for 5 years. Few more days will not hurt me one bit. Again thank you for all the great ideas.

TC - Got some bad news from Rite-Temp.

Ritetemp is now Filtrete 3M and is still sold at Home Depot. The 8000 and 6000 series thermostats have been discontinued. There are no vertical models in the Filtrete line.

Mark,

The last few times I went to change my filter, I've used my air compressor to blow out the water lines, using one of these:

http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/blow-out-plug/4410

Opened my low point drains, blow from the city water connector, and all the water in the filter housing is syphoned out.

AND NO SPILL!!!!!!

I modified my housing so it has a drain. If U want I can find the post.

I'm actually stinking rich and seldom do things on my own. So on the occasion when I'm noviced and ignorant, the PR firm I've retained goes to work to make me appear experienced and knowledgable to others...

Thank them for another job well done. wavesmilys
