Wildcats in Fort Wilderness
We've been watching for Wildcats all week, and haven't seen any on the road. Today, as we were entering Fort Wilderness, we saw one pulling out. Then later as we were driving around the campground in our rented golf cart, we saw a Wildcat in loop 100. It didn't look like anybody was home. We'll check again. If we don't find them at home, I might leave one of our Wildcat forum business cards on their picnic table.

Re: Wildcats in Fort Wilderness
Phillip,
We're in loop 1300. They just finished upgrading the sites to premium, and we are the first to be in this new site. We had 5 days reserved for a premium site, and decided to add a couple days at the beginning. All we could get were "full hook ups." That was okay, we were willing to move from one site to another. When we got here, the castmember who checked us in said we got an upgrade for our first two nights, which meant we wouldn't have to move on Sunday. That's nice, because Sunday (Jan 25) is Scruffy's birthday. WDW has this special thing going on for people who are visiting on their birthday. They get in for free. Well, we have Annual Passports, so don't need the free admission, so Scruffy will get a gift card that is equal to a day's admission. There are some restrictions on what the card can be used for, but I'm sure Scruffy will put it to good use.
We've worked long and hard for retirement. Now that's it's here, we plan on playing as much as we can. :) You'll get your turn.... just be patient. :)

so Scruffy will get a gift card that is equal to a day's admission
I saw the B-day promotion going on for 09' .... But getting the Gift card is even better if its equal to the price of admission.
What a awesome Bday gift..... If you could only use it on eating inside the park that should be enough to eat on for a couple of days..... No wait a minute,,,, maybe a hotdog and a napkin... :)
and by the Way Scruffy ,,,,,
I bet its nice and clean up in the new section..... At least the fireworks probably won't rattle your windows at 10pm ..... Like it did in loop 300,,, but that was pretty cool to me though, I like stuff that goes boommmmm.
I was just Bust'n on ya'll for getting to go to the fort so much.
I don't think you could top the place myself, Unless somebody hasn't told me of a better place to stay. ?
Ya'll have fun and don't stump your toe on the Lawn Mower

Re: Wildcats in Fort Wilderness
Unfortunately, the gift card won't work in restaurants. It's good for prepackaged goods (cookies, candy, chips, etc). I don't know if it work work on groceries here in the Fort. But, who want's to spend it on groceries. Maybe Scruffy will buy himself a jacket. It can be used for ECV rentals, paddle boats, the little boats (they used to be called water sprites, but they have a new name now). It's good for golf cart rentals here at Fort Wilderness. We've already paid for the golf cart, though.
The cards had to be used on the birthday, but I understand that they changed that so they don't expire. That means that if Scruffy doesn't use it now, we can apply it to our golf cart rental in April.
Last time we were here, we stayed in loop 200. The fireworks were louder there than here, but they are still loud. The sites are closer together in loops 100, 200, and 300 than they are here. We've got lots of space on both sides of our site, I'll take some pictures. Not all of the sites in loop 1300 are this spacious though, we just got lucky.
Well, got to get going. We have a birthday to celebrate!!!

Re: Wildcats in Fort Wilderness
Scruffy's birthday was great! Since he was wearing a birthday button, lots of people, especially castmembers wished him a happy birthday. A couple Streetmosphere characters (these are costumed castmembers - not disney characters - who walk around and interact with the guests) spent quite a while joking around with him while we were taking a break on a bench near Adventureland in the Magic Kingdom. That was fun. We had dinner at Trail's End in Fort Wilderness. Much to our surprise, a CM named Jennifer announced to everyone in the dining room that Jim was celebrating his 21st birthday again. Then she instructed everyone to shout "Yee Haw!" - then she presented him with a lucious piece of strawberry shortcake with a candle on top.
We drove around the campground after dinner - we were on a deer hunt. We spotted 4 of them grazing near the road by the group tent camping area. It was a great birthday!!

Re: Wildcats in Fort Wilderness
We spotted another Wildcat in Fort Wilderness yesterday. Now we're trying to find someone home in TWO 'Cats.

Re: Wildcats in Fort Wilderness
Yesterday morning on our ride through the campground, we spotted another Wildcat. That makes, counting ours, four Wildcats in Fort Wilderness all at the same time.
The door was open on one of the 'Cats, so we stopped to introduce ourselves and leave our card. Nobody answered, so we just left the card on their picnic table.
We'll be going for our daily drive through the campground in a bit - maybe we'll find someone at home. Or maybe even another 'Cat.

Re: Wildcats in Fort Wilderness
Drove through the campground yesterday. One Wildcat moved out, and another moved in. So, that's still 4 of us in here.
Phillip, you're going to love this ---- We were supposed to check out this Friday (1/30), but were able to extend for two more nights - in the same site. Now we're leaving Sunday (2/1).

I bet ya'll are gonna wind up turning in a resume before you leave...... Wouldn't you love to move your camper over to the island that the discovery center used to be on in the middle of the lake ? Ya'll could be the island caretakers,,, make sure nobody sneaks onto the island and stuff....

Re: Wildcats in Fort Wilderness
Is the 1300 loop easier to back up in instead of backing in on a curve like we did in the 200 loop last year?

Re: Wildcats in Fort Wilderness
Bob,
I'd say all of the newly upgraded loops are easier than they were previously. Loops 100, 200, and 300 aren't upgraded, and still difficult.

We spotted a Wildcat pulling in. I was outside on our patio, and waved. The driver waved back. Don't know which loop they were headed to. We'll probably find him before we leave.

Re: Wildcats in Fort Wilderness
One Wildcat moved out this morning. On our morning ride through the campground, we saw 3 'Cats besides ours. One in loop 100, and 2 in loop 300.
Also saw a vintage trailer group in one of the loops. This afternoon or tomorrow we're going to drive through and take some photos. In the early '70s, we owned one of those "vintage" trailers - of course, it wasn't vintage then, although we DID purchase it used.
