What do you have planned for this year?

Post by Big Dave on 1/17/2009, 3:33 pm

What projects or add ons do you have planned for this year on your Wildcat.

I'm going to redo my extra 20 amp circuit and put in a twist lock connector. Right now I have a short cord through the floor and just plug into the short pigtail hanging under the cat. It works but it's kinda inconvenient.

I'm also planning on putting in a fantastic fan too. I wanted to do it last year but never pulled the trigger.

I'm also going to purchase a macerator pump and give that a try. I have a job coming up this spring and I'm going to camp in the driveway and the septic tank is above where the Cat will be parked. I'll be there for two months and moving it every 3 or 4 days to dump is not an option.

I'm also going to put in a remote for the landing gear. There is nothing I hate worse than backing up to connect the cat and have to get out to raise or lower, back up some more and do it again because of unlevel terrain so the RC will be a big plus.

Not sure what else yet but I'm a gadget nut and I'm sure something else will catch my eye.

I too plan on putting 1: a extra 20 amp circuit in with a twist lock. [ kids can stumble over a regular cord and unplug] 2: Fabricating and installing a receiver hitch and a hitch hauler for those extras that will not fit in the bed of the truck. 3: Upgrading the faucets in the kitchen and bath sinks. I'm sure after reading some of yours I will want to add to my list.

I forgot about upgrading the faucets. That's another that I'll add to the list.

What do you have planned for this year?

Post by Glen Schumann on 1/17/2009, 5:20 pm

This is the list:

1. Add shelf to bathroom cabinet
2. Insulate basement and trash doors
3. Add second smaller shelf to trash compartment
4. Decorative rail above microwave and corner cabinet in kitchen
5. Insulated hatch to fill dirty clothes chute
6. Sound isolating mount for water pump

Who knows how many will actually get done?

I too really like Mike's (schrowang) idea on the exterior power outlet, so I plan on doing that. And do some insulating like Mike stated in another post.

Add a shelf to the medicine cabinet.

make a sewer pipe holder.

move/remove lazy susan and separate the 2 cabinets above the
sink, and put a shelf in the back cabinet.

always thought about Decorative rail above microwave and corner cabinet in kitchen, but havent done it yet.

I have upgraded the thermostat, and installed the Hughes Autoformer. My plan now is to SLEEP in the trailer! This is the longest that I've ever owned anything that I have not gotten to use. Looking forward to going south next month. Shocked

Post by jeepingjason on 1/18/2009, 2:17 pm

Not knowing I bought a camper(2005 29rlbs) with a 13.5 ac. Not near enough for the heat here in the south. Want to add a 2nd ac this year. Has any one here done this on there Wildcat. The way the roof is shaped in the bedroom I don`t think it will go there. So I am looking at adding the 2nd ac to the vent in the kitchen .
The 3 questions I have are .
Will the roof suport 2 ac`s that close together (90lbs a piece) ?
Will the 1st ac ,which is a ducted system cirulate the air enough to cool the bed room?
Are should I just install a 15k (but wouldn`t 2 -13.5s be better)?
I will put a extra 20 amp service on the cat for the ac

Thanks, Danny

Tom,

It's going to warm up here to the 50's during the day here in NC. Wednesday is a good day, I'll get out the Nikon and take some pix of the insulation that I did on the doors.

I removed that stupid lazy susan and made the area into 2 cabinets with shelves using maple laminate flooring that matched the interior. The shelves have been used for 3 years and have provided some great storage area. Cann't provide pictures as we are in Cocoa Beach for the Winter and the cord for the camera/computer is back at home.

Thanks Mike, did you use faced insulation in the shower door? and if so, which direction did you put the paper?

Jim, forgot the cable, AwwMan Don't you hate when that happens.... I think we might just remove the lazy susan also..

My plan is to add the digital thermostat, change the shore power cord to the type that plugs into the side of the trailer, keep up on all the little maintenance items that seem to pop up after using the Cat...and the most important is to use the CAT MORE!!!!

My first priority is the shower. I want to see if I can find out how to turn off the shower head without getting a burst of cold water when you turn it back on. Nothing has worked so far and Rod Batt and Forest River have not given a solution.

I will look into the feasibility of the external 20 amp connection. The security of extra electrical power would be nice.

I am still finding areas where more insulation is needed and will work on that.

After that, it will be primarily general maintenance as we plan an extended trip into Eastern Canada and New England state late this summer and fall.

Having just got mine just in time to park it for the winter. I plan to use it. Once I've spent some time in it I'm sure there will be some tweeking. I did remove the access panel to the WH and put in a 6" inspection port (used on boats) so turning on and off the WH bypass is simpler.

The more I think about the additional 20 amp service the more it intrigues me. If I put one in, I believe I will run an outlet in the living room plus another one, GFI of course, in the bathroom. That way the DW can use all her tools and be on a separate breaker than the rest of the Cat.

Keep the great ideas coming!

You know, that's a good point in regard to the outlet for the wife. I always have to shut off the A/C in the summer time when she is using her hair dryer.

Very good point..

Would it be better to put another breaker in the basement for this addition, of just rely on the CG's post 20AMP breaker?

Tom,

A good point on top of a good point. So what you are saying is put in a mini breaker box in the basement to support the 2 outlets? I'm not an electrician nor an electrical engineer, but you have me thinking. If something was to happen, say a dead short, do you want to put in possibly (2) 15 amp breakers, one for each outlet, that would trip before the CG 20 amp? I have to think about this some more, but very good point!

No plans for the Cat right now. But the DW would like to get the 2009 31qbbh so I think if that happens then I will have a long list of things to do. I just finished the 2006 wildcat. Oh well have to keep her happy if you know what I mean. Cool

This year we are going to take a 3rd try at making the perfect computer desk. We've drawn up the plans, all we have to do is get the supplies and get to work.

Also, something we were going to do last year, but didn't get around to it - another shelf in the medicine cabinet.

We're on a trip right now, and I decided we need a way to secure our hand soap bottle by the bathroom sink so it can always be handy, whether we are set-up somewhere or traveling. Right now it rides in the sink. When we make a pit stop, we have to take the soap out of the sink in order to wash our hands. It would be so much neater to have the soap securely in it's own place. Scruffy says that won't be hard to do.

Re: What do you have planned for this year?

Post by Scruffy and Tater on 1/21/2009, 2:43 am

It got down to 23 deg here near Tallahassee. Our basement temp got down to about 50. We were glad we had those light bulbs down there.

Breaker broke twice. Once last night when we had the electric heater plugged into our new outlet by the sink - it's on the same line as the water heater. So, we moved the space heater cord to an outlet under the kitchen cabinet. That worked well until Scruffy plugged in the coffee maker in the other outlet under the cabinet. He hadn't noticed that the breaker broke. The space heater quit, but it's supposed to do that now and then. I was upstairs and noticed that the clock on the vanity was out. So, the outlets under the cabinet and the outlets in the bathroom are on the same circuit.

That extra 20 amp service is sounding pretty good to us.

Pioneerman,
Our microwave is plugged into an outlet in the cabinet above the sink. Even though it's a double outlet, only one side has current. I want Scruffy to add another outlet so I can put some sort of lighted decoration above the cabinet. The decoration wouldn't use enough power to interfere with the microwave.
Speaking of the microwave, when ours is on it causes interference in our TV.

FYI EVERYBODY,

I have moved the cold water blast issue to its own post. I thought it was important enough since we all seem to have an issue with this to have its own post. I also moved most of the posts from this one to it.

Here is a link to it:

I plan on going 12V on the items I got the inverter for. I managed to blow the 1750W inverter. I'd rather just get a AC/DC flat panel for the cost of the inverter replacement. The generator can do the higher loads in AC. Lesson learned--don't plug an air compressor into an inverter no matter what the ratings state. The inverter blew faster than the fuses protecting it. I tried to replace the parts (mosfets and fuses), but it still fails to work. Too frustrating!

The inverter was nice for the times when you don't want to fire the generator. It's prep'd so I may do what the budget allows and replace the inverter.
