I joined the club today.
My uncle called and he needed his step sons fifth wheel moved. It was an older model and I only had to move it about 10 miles. Hooked it up and checked everything out to make sure it was road worthy and started to take off. I only had to make gentle turns and nothing severe at all but I wasn't paying attention and not being used to the rv I started off and had to make a slight right turn and sure enough got it into the corner of my cab. It's only a small dent and it missed the glass. It peeled some paint. :x
Only upside to the whole deal is that I've been needing to get the top of my cab and hood repainted because the paint is starting to get some small cracks where it's going bad. I guess this will speed up the process a bit.
Never fails when I try to help someone I end up getting screwed.

It was a 40' 1991 coachman. It buckled the side just a bit but I think it will push back in and not be noticable. It's in descent shape but nothing I would want to tow around the country.

Re: I joined the club today.
Yep,,,, That happens to all the good guys...
Me and my buddy own a car trailer together and he loaned it out to another buddy of ours - We're all 3 like brothers...
But : He was going through a divorce and needed the trailer to haul some stuff from his EX-house, Said he'd bring it back better than new.....
Well he brought it back with the front axle hanging off and the left fender ripped off.....
His Xwife came out and got the last word as he was pulling out of the yard and he Wacked a Pine Tree as she was screaming ........
He did pay for a new axle though.... and me and charlie got a good laugh out of it. What else are friends good for if you can't laugh at them ---- I mean with them....

Sorry to hear it, the Cat dealer was out $800 when they did it to my truck. The body shop had to replace the whole pillar.

I've been pretty lucky so far (knock on wood), but did come really close though.

Dave,
I'm glad the damage wasn't worse. I hope you were able to finish moving the 5th wheel.

Re: I joined the club today.
Yes I finished moving the fifth wheel. After the crunch I slid the hitch back and continued on. Should have done it to begin with but just couldn't see that I was going to turn that tight. It was out in a field and looking back I wonder if the trailer didn't drop into a hole and tip it to one side which made it contact the truck because I wasn't turned very sharp at all.
Oh well, the damage is done just have to get it fixed this summer when I can do without the truck for a week.

Re: I joined the club today.
Sorry to hear about your damage. That is one thing we have to worry about w/ 5ers, hitting the rear of the cab plus possibly hitting the bed rails. I have a long bed and with the extended pin box on the Cat, hitting the cab is not a problem. I believe I could turning more than 90* and still not contact the cab. The bed rails I worry about when entering and exiting parking lots and such.
