Another from Mich

Post by camping chessies on Tue May 20, 2008 5:00 pm

We had our Wildcat for several years now. Just joining here.
We had a pop-up previously, were beginning to grow tired of the effort to set-up and take down - usually in the rain. Plus with 2 teenagers and 2 large dogs, it was a bit cramp. And everything was down low, which seemed to be getting further and further away from us as we got older!
Wife saw a friend's new 5er and said that is what she wants. But we had a shortbed PU which was unable to tow a 5er. Promised after we got a new truck we will look for a 5er. As we watched ebay and other sites to get an idea what the cost, saw one that was low cost - but with a catch - it was a salvage unit. Only damage was a hole in roof, brand new unit otherwise.
We won the auction and had my dad bring it to our house (no new truck yet!). Parked covered for winter, then in spring tore into and began repairs. Also bought new truck (one we still have). After replacing 6 roof trusses, 10' of roof deck, and all the fixtures on the roof, we have a brand new unit (for us). Anyone the looks can find the repair.
Our 1st trip in it was to YNP & Glacier - what a great trip it was! Since then been on many weekend trips, Grand Canyon & SW Utah, Maine, and this summer to the Carolinas. Beginning to think ahead for our next unit (if can still afford to tow with diesel $$). Kids are now moving out and it is just the wife & I.

Welcome aboard the forum. I'm sure you can throw a lot of info out there since you've torn one of these things apart from the top.
Did you take pictures of the repair stages ? If so load them up.

Welcome Aboard !!!!

Would also love to see the pics of your repairs as well......

Hope you had a great camp thru YNP and Glacier...live close to Glacier here, but have yet to actually camp there!

Anyway, there are lots of great people here with LOTS of knowledge about the Wildact line and quite a few have done some wonderfull work on thier own units....

welcome

Unfortunately I did not take any pictures during the work in-progress - too focused to get it finished before weather hit.

I do have some of the damage - working to place them at a site that I can post from.

It was a fun project - not overly complicated or technical. We are very pleased with the unit so far - other than a tire wear issue (see other post - related to this damage?)
