New heat pump A/c heat units roof mount

Do any of the newer campers come with the heat pump units ? has anyone seen or used one yet ?

I'd love to install one and replace my 13,500 unit with one of these from the link above.

I wonder if they would heat the camper as good as the gas unit ?

I have seem some these heat/air units but I dont think there is any was using your duct systems. If this what I have seen the air/heat blows out direclty out of the unit, so I dont know how effective it would be throughout the trailer. I guess if you used it in conjuction with the original heater it might work out good.

I was under the impression that this one blew heat through the ductwork, or from the unit either way like the regular A/C systems do. Did I read it wrong. ?

They probably work ok, but we all know heat rises.

In something like a fiver, I would think it may take quite a while to heat decently since all the ductowrk is in the ceiling.

It is not real easy to force that hot air down to the floor level, especially since the air return is on the ceiling also.

The heap pump would use your orig duct work if existing. They work quite well down to 30-35 degs F. The main thing to remember is the final air temperature with a heat pump is not as high as with a direct exhange unit e.g. gas or electric. These units have no auxiliary heating; meaning if they are unable to maintain the set temperature on the thermostat no additional input can be aquired. This is not a problem as the existing furnace will supply that need. Example set heat pump stat at 70 deg. set furnace at 65-68 deg. The biggest complaint is the final air temp that people are not aware of or not informed about. The final air temperature is cooler than a direct fired furnace. I am not sure what the exterior temp cut out is for this unit; most are adjustable, but in my experence 35 deg F is about it. Also not sure on this unit but normally when they reach exterior cut out temp the unit shuts down & the furnace takes over. All in all I think they are a good investment. From 40 deg F & up they will supply all heating needed. Had one been availabe on this Wildcat I would have purchased it.

I've seen heat strip kits that you add to them. or add it to your existing a/c unit to make it electric heat. Like you said just something to take the chill off.

Our current 5th wheel (Open Range 399 BHS) has two of the Carrier AirV Heat pump units. The heat pump works great as long as the temperature outside is above 40 degrees. Below that the one unit automatically switches to the gas furnace and the other will stop running.

The heat generated by the heat pump is very warm (not quite the same as the furnace, but much warmer than our home's heat pump). The heat does warm the complete camper even though it comes from the AC vents.

My biggest complaint with the AirV is that the thermostat is in the ceiling unit. Very inaccurate. I am going to add a separate one for the furnace (wall mount one) since currently the furnace kicks in and the roof thermostat shuts it down before hitting the correct temperature.

Besides the thermostat issue (there is a wireless remote you use to set the temperature and mode, but the actual thermostat is in the ceiling unit). These also have a dry setting that cycles the AC unit to remove moisture.
