Clogged Water Filter

Post by mattebury on Tue Jul 29, 2008 2:00 am

What is everyone's experience with clogged water filters? I was in Yellowstone and the filter got so clogged that even the pump was having a hard time pushing water through. (It was brand new in April and only used a few nights before this big trip) Everything cleared up just fine when I removed the filter and let it run unimpeded. Which reminds me, I need to put a couple of those on the list so I can have a spare the next time.

Get the 5 micron filters at Walmart; about $10 for two of them. I think the factory filter is 1 micron, it clogs easy.

Mark,

If your water source is bad, the filter will clog in a matter of seconds. We've been places that our filter lasts for months, then in 1 day, its clogged up. I always carry a few extra of the 5 micron filters from Walmart with us.

Tom,

You've had the 5 micron filters clog? Wow...that must have been some really dirty water!

Mark,

Yes, it was really dirty, but the filter sacrificed itself for the good of man kind. Laughing Or at least for me.....

I have never had a filter clog up, I usually replace it every season with just to be safe. I will have to pack a spare now, just in case. Thanks.

I had a water filter clog at a campground in Mississippi a number of years ago. Actually I had two clog at that campground. I didn't realize how bad the water coming out of the spigot was.

Yikes...that's why we use CG water for showers and washing dishes. Maybe that isn't so smart either????

Don't get me wrong, it is rare for this to happen. But it has once or twice, so don't be too surprised if it happens to you sooner or later.

I arrived at a CG one time to find a clear plastic cup full of hideous looking brown water sitting on the table. So I checked the water coming out of the spiggot and sure enough, it was just as bad. Fortunately I had my own water so we didn't have a problem. I sure wish I could have thanked the previous camper that left me that cup of water as a warning.

We typically travel with the fresh water tank 1/4 - 1/2 full. Mostly for flushing the toilet while traveling. But, could be used in case of a CG with really nasty water.

OK, I went to Wally World today and I could not find any 5 micron filters that look like the filter in my unit. Does anybody have the name / package / label from one of these. Wally World has gotten pretty self service and the blank looks that I got today . . .

My Wildcat factory filter is a Water / Pur CCI-10-CLW and takes CCI-10-C replacement inserts.
