Axle Mounting Bracket Holes; can I use either set
I noticed that on my 2004 Wildcat, on the mounting brackets for the axles, there are 2 sets of holes. Currently, my axles are mounted on the top set of holes. I was wondering if it is OK to move the axles down to the lower set of holes, thus raising my trailer a couple of inches. I want to start pulling my trailer into more remote locations, and think that I might like that extra ground clearance.
Has anyone ever done this? If so, please provide your feedback.
Thanks,
Jeff

Yep, did it the first year we had it.
The dealers sometimes do it to level the trailer if you have a 4X4 tow vehicle.

Thanks, Steve. Did you notice any difference in the way the trailer pulled after you did this?

Nope............its been fine ever since. The axles do get a little closer together, since mine has the Equa-flex centerpoint, and there was no adjustment in the shackle there.
No problem so far in 2 years...

Cool. I am about to install a Dexter E-Z-Flex, and will move the axles down while I am doing this.
Thanks again for the replies.

I moved mine also, no problems noted; just gave me an extra inch or so.

I can't imagine mine on the lowest hole. It's already way up in the air. It may be the difference in frame fabricators from east to west models. When level, my door threshold is 40" from the ground.
Just use caution, in my opinion, they didn't gusset the spring hanger enough for the lowest hole. There's another post where the hanger was bent to the side. Probably from tight backing where there's a lot of lateral stress on the axles. Think torque arm.

When I had the Equaflex installed, the mechanic had to drop down to the lower holes, as the Equaflex would not clear in the top holes.

I sent this same question to Rod Batts and he said you can use either hole, my dealer lifted my 32QBBS using the lower holes because my new 09 Government Motors truck(GM) is a lot taller than my 06

Thanks for the reply. By the way, who is Rod Batts? Sorry, hopefully I didn't offend Rod.

NO!!! After trying to contact him 2 times, I'm still waiting for him to call.... But I also gave up and went ahead and fixed my issues.
Personally, I think this forum would be a great asset to FR with all our ideas and issues, FR could make a nice camper into a great camper.
Rod hasn't been on here since May 11, 2009. He doesn't know what he's missing.
