Re: Flip Video
12 hours? My rear hurts just thinking about it!
I have not raced for a awhile (since I ruined my knees), but I ran the Rocky Mountain Enduro Circuit for a number of years and raced motocross for practice. There were very few weekends during the summer that we were not driving 6+ hours each way to a race.
I've been seriously looking at the 250XC-W and 250XCF-W. KTM's rule in Colorado. The KTM and cat would make a great combination (as opposed to my '85 chevy wagon and bike trailer). After I hurt myself, my wife could put me to bed and drive home.
They make a carrier that would work with my rear hitch. However, that would take a lot of faith; you could drag your bike for a long time before you knew there was a problem.
Just not sure this old body can handle it anymore.

Re: Flip Video
I have a photo hanging on my wall similar to your avitar. Shows me and my trusty RMX (sold
) crossing a river near Buena Vista Colorado with water up to the bottom of the tank. There was always a professional photographer at the enduros that would snap your photo and send you a proof. They would set up somewhere like a river crossing, big log crossing, or nasty hill climb to get some good action. When you came around a corner and saw a banner that said "photo" ahead, it really got your attention. Just like when you come upon a whole bunch of spectators; they are there to watch guys eat it. And, now that I think about it, if you come to a water crossing and the spectators are pointing to a specific line, watch out, they might be honest or they might be pointing to the deepest, nastiest hole to watch you disappear.

Re: Flip Video
Did you have to ride all 12 hours or was it a relay? I rode a couple of 120 mile enduros that would take about 6 hours, thought I was gonna die. And if it was a two day event, getting up that second morning was hard.

All 12hrs
All 12hrs, from 6am-6pm, approx: 200 + miles, and there was a 40ft jump across a 20ft deep gully that cut off about 1 1/2 miles of trail, and of course I didn't have the nerve to jump it. One wrong jump could mangle you and make a Yard sale out of your bike,,, The A riders where sailing across it like it was nothing.
I was on a row with Mike Lafferty once at the Cherokee Enduro, KTM factory rider, He'd just disappear like a ninja through the woods, then you'd catch up with him , If your lucky at a check point. All I saw was his rear fender on the start line,,,,
I remember one year it rained so much one year that only 20 riders out of about 70/80 finished the race.
The cherokee is usually a 120 plus ground miles, I think the easiest one I ran was in Biluxi , Ms about 20 or more miles was set at like 5 mph.... to keep from tearing up a sandy creek bottom.... now that was weird but sweet.
I love the tight sections that you'd come out of and somebody would hang a paper plate up that said , " if you think that was tight " and the next one would say " you aint seen nothing yet " ,,,,,
I ran one that had a unusual reset right in the middle of it, came out into a palmetto bottom that looked exactly like the place we took off from, Totally freaked me out I thought I had missed a turn and came back to the start line ,,,,
I swear I felt like something out of the Twighlight zone,,,, My wife had rode with someone to that check point. I was riding in circles trying to find the guys that was on my row, or the row ahead of me, when I finally spotted my wife she was on the ground laughing ,,,, and pointed at the guys on my row that had parked their bikes behind some bushes.....

Re: Flip Video
Yeah, the older I get, the scarier the big jumps get. I quit motocross when the average triple got up to 60'; insane.
I feel much better with two big knobies hooked up.
