Surround Sound for HD-DVD
Tried hooking up AV cables from HDDVD to input 1 on Concertone. Sounded awful!! Hooked AV cables from back of HDTV to input 1. Sounded awful again!! Switched everything over to input 2, both ways,no difference. Is the Concertone 5.1 incompatible with HD anything?

Re: Surround Sound for HD-DVD
Did the stereo sound OK with other TV's DVD players ?
I use a Xbox system to watch movies/ gaming with and it sounds fine. I don't think the xbox is HD, but HD/ Blue Ray should only involve the picture quality.
What kind of equipment did you buy and I could look up what kind of sound system its got built in....

Phil,
The DVD player is a Sony HDMI 1080 upscale; Model Number: DVP-NS700H/B
Have tried multiple things: AV from TV to inputs 1/2, AV from DVD to inputs 1/2. All sounded exactly the same. Very low volume out of all speakers at normal volume levels on Concertone and TV. Also base speaker, which was the most predominate thing I was hearing close up to the components, sounded distorted/overloaded.
I've always used the Concertone for DVDs and CDs up to now. Listening to the TV speakers will be quite acceptable if quality sound isn't achievable through the Concertone speakers. I just thought as long as the capability was there to go surround sound...why not?

Re: Surround Sound for HD-DVD
I dont' see how you could go wrong with anything Sony.
Are you able to try something else into the input's to see what they sound like ?
If that sounds like trash to I'd suggest calling this new number for the concertone Guru that we got last week. You can read the review about him in the KUDO's section.

Sounds like he could answer your question .

Re: Surround Sound for HD-DVD
If nothing gets figured out here beforehand, I'll just wait and talk to the service guy after Labor Day weekend when I take the CAT over for the Inverter/ground problem.

Re: Surround Sound for HD-DVD
TC,
I don't know much about the 2007 Concertone as I have a 2006 so I'll just write some things to check.
First, the Concertone will likely not have a digital audio external input so you will not be able to get 5.1 audio from the DVD player.
Second, make sure that you are using the analog RCA outputs into the Concertone inputs. This will be stereo audio only and this output may need to be enabled on your DVD player so check the manual for audio options.
Third,it is possible that when you switch to the external source, the output level to the speakers drops due to the level setting on the Concertone. Check audio options on the Concertone.
As a rule, the Concertone only accepts ANALOG audio as an external source for audio on AV/1 and AV/2 so don't expect 5.1 audio. The Concertone is basically its own 5.1 audio source which is why it is a DVD player but it lacks severely in video output capability.
Good luck!
