Digital TV maps

Post by TC on 8/28/2009, 7:00 pm

I came across this web site put out by the gov't. It has mucho info on the digital transition; including maps that show you where the TV station towers are located, what their compass headings are, their signal strengths, etc. I tried it out by putting in our local zip code and was really impressed with the detailed info. You should check it out...

I think this would be an excellent tool for those of us who try to get local OTA TV stations while away from home base!

TC,
Thanks for the website. I've added it to my favorites.

Beware, they are not 100% accurate! This has been discussed in the satellite forums. When I put in my zip code 89423 and then drag the "pin" to my actually location. It says no signal for FOX. What is not in the database is the on-channel repeater FOX has on the top of a 10000ft peak that the FCC hasn't included in their calculations. The on-channel repeater can extend the signal from the primary transmitter and still be on the same frequency.

The one station I wish I could get is PBS. On Dish, I get the downres'd SD version of the original HD program. I about 500 ft too far east of the signal (blocked by a hill behind my house) to get the OTA feed from Reno.

I know there are other areas in the country with the same issues.
