anyone have this satilite setup ?

Post by isimar on 5/13/2009, 2:36 pm

http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/product/winegard-travler-automatic-multi-satellite-tv-antennas/6795

it's a bit pricey, but i think i'm going to have one installed. i've found them on the internet for $1150. the feedback on these things are good. one button operation is exactly what i need. the simpler it is to operate, the less i have to worry about my wife being able to operate it.
campingworls always seems a bit more expensive on products so i'll be shopping around, i know a rv repairman who said he'd install it for $150 compared to campingworlds $250.
whaddia think ??

Does it automatically find the satelites?

One catch with roof mounted dishes ... if your in a shady campsite, you may not be able to park in a way to get the clear shot at the southern sky. I would have been SOL this past weekend with a roof mounted unit. I had to cart my dish down to the bank of the lake (about 40 ft from the site) to be able to get the NBA playoffs. It was tough being a Hawks fan

We bought this one so that we can take it with us when we get another WC. We are very happy with it and I really don't like the idea of putting holes in the roof.

We just have the dish attached to our ladder. We DO have the problem of getting a clear view of the souther sky, and I think eventually we'll get a tripod to hold it so we can place it on the ground.

Scruffy's compass disappeared, so our last night out, he had to set it up without knowing which way was south. He guestimated by looking at other dishes, then turned up the volume while setting up. He could hear the beeps through the open window and had it set up in no time.

got the dish installed and took it to the campground. i had a lot of bushy trees in the way of the dish, but one push of the button and that thing rises and searches for the signals to the satelites. all in all it took less than 5 minutes for it to do it's own setup, but it works great.

Please keep us updated on how this works. I've talked to several RV'rs that have said it will not pick up in shady areas. I use a tripod and one LNB Sat. Sets up much easier than my 3 LNB.
I like your set up and would like to try it but have not because of the comments from other campers. Please keep us posted.

I replaced the old crank up antenna with a Winegard crank up Dish with an elevation readout.Very easy to use, install took me all of 1hr, rarely takes me 5 minutes to get signal but,, as Mr Zsz said, some sites are really shady, I know some sites to avoid at some parks for that reason, I also carry another dish with 100'of cable, Another handy setup to tune in a tripod, I used one of my kids toys, its called "Spy Kit" I think, but it has "bugging device" that you can place by the TV and hear the signal via ear bud out by the dish.. works great

We love the Vu Qube. We bought the one that automatically finds the satellite from where you are so you don't have to do any thinking. When we got it at Camping World there was lady there that said she has one but uses Dishnetwork and has trouble all the time. We have Directv and no problem. Love it. Just take out the Qube, plug in and then hit the button and wait for about 10 minutes. Bob used the hole that he had made for our XM radio antenna.

just an update, the roof mounted dish has given NO problems.

When we ordered our Cat from RVW, we had a winguard satillite installed before we picked up the Cat.
If i ever buy another new one i would not have a roof mounted system installed due to where we camp here on the east coast.
Most campgrounds we go to are heavily wooded and i hardly ever get a signal from the rooftop dish.
I also carry a portable with 2 diffrent stands and usually can get hooked up easily.
HAPPYCAMPING ALL.

Thought I'd pass this along. Met a gentleman that is an avid RV'r and owns a Radio Shack. He sets up a lot of dishes. He walked me thru the setup process he uses and mentioned two very important points.
Hook up everything...dish..cables,etc...without any power to receiver.
When everything is hooked up, then turn the power on to position dish and tune signal. Once you have a good signal, RESET the receiver....just as you would your computer. I have tried this setup and it seems to work each time.

I am using Directv and have a 3 LNB dish. He claims you have to reset the receiver even when you do a new install at home.

If anyone can add or have been doing this, please comment.

Hope this helps.
