trailer with no hand book

Post by Francee on 10/15/2008, 4:59 pm

I bought a 2003 used trailer that seems in very good condition, but the seller did not have a manual. For this month I live in the trailer.

There are a few questions:
I have to turn on the generator every other day, is that normal.
The freezer does not freeze, I thought that the Refrigerator runs on propane. Are there temperature adjustments for the Fridge?
The heater only seems to run when the generator is on or should it be able to function on battery power?
Thanks for any help,
Francee

Welcome to the forum,
Forest River doesn't really have a manual.
I am not sure about the generator, but it could be possible if the battery is old and that's why you would have to run the generator to use your furnace (one other thing to check is the little switch on the frame of the refrigerator, you would have to open the door and look up to see it. Make sure it's off, it's used to keep moisture from forming in humid climates and runs on 12 volt)
The freezer should freeze while it's running on propane - might be an issue with the circuit board, there is no adjustment.
I hope this helps.
BTW, what model Wildcat do you have?

Also, inside the fridge on the back grates, there should be a temperature probe. I think you slide it all the way to the top to make the freezer / fridge colder.

If you are living in this and not plugged in, you are going to need a new battery. The furnace will run off of 12v, but you will be using your battery pretty heavy with the lights and such. Even with a new battery, the furnace will wear my battery down after a day if it is very cold outside. You might want to look into a solar charging system, they are somewhat costly, but so are medical bills from hypothermia.

Welcome to the Forum, where are you located at?

trailer with no hand book

Thank you both for the helpful hints, I found the adjustments buttons for the Fridge. The heater comes on with the generator and then stays on when the shore power is off.
My camper/trailer ( not a fifth wheel) is located in New Mexico, outside of Taos in a rural area called Carson. Next year i will bring a power line in, one day I will build a home.
In two weeks I will return to California and winterize the trailer.
One more question: In between the Propane bottles ther is a button that turns red(?)
when one bottle is empty and then I turn the lever to the other side?
Thanks again

Yes, that is correct.
