Wow, living in Texas, I never felt so close to California before. I travel to California on business frequently and I do fill up a rent car, Wow again. Guess the pretty weather is what you are paying extra for! Wink

Have a great time in Yellowstone. Remember the folks in the U.K are paying close to $10 a gal. (it's all a matter of perspective).

Texas Flash "All a matter of perspective," perhaps; they pay the same amount for a barrel of oil that we do, it is there government's tax that makes them pay what they do for a liter.

Pickle:

I don't know about taxes in the U.K., but I do know gas is very expensive there. The $10 per gallon came from a recent article on CNN comparing prices worldwide. Guess where it was cheapest? We lived in Switzerland for two years (1998-2000). I paid the equivalent of $4.00 a gal while there, 10 years ago. Those of us in the U.S. have been getting off lightly for some time. I don't like paying $4.49 per gallon, but I do understand we are just catching up to the rest of the world, at least the European part of it. Shocked

Actually, Pickle has it right, the taxes on fuel are very high in Europe. It's part of their energy policy, make fuel expense and it encourages people into smaller and more fuel efficient cars. That's why petrol is $10 per gallon. It's also why diesel powered cars are so much more popular since they get way better mileage. When I was in Munich a few years back on business, the company car was an Audi A6 diesel. When it was idling, you'd never know it was an oil burner. The thing hauled @$! and got over 40 MPG equivalent.

Apparently these old eyes were seeing double on the $10 per gal. in the U.K. when I read the article that went with the chart. I apologize for misleading anybody. Geezerhood is catching up to me.

Ahh, Venezuela beautiful women and short-stops is what they were famous for before Hugo.

I don't know where they got their conversions, but in the UK, Petrol (good old gasoline in the U.S.) is 118p per litre. 1 gallon ~ 3.8 litres, so that's ~ £4.5 per U.S. gallon. 1 GBP ~ $1.95, so 1 gallon of gas in the U.K. ~ $8.75.

My gosh, does this mean gas in Caracas is $0.28 per gallon? lol! Well, no matter the currency, if you ain't in the big oil producing countries, the stuff is expensive.

Yep, I'll be watching the prices at Flying J's since I'll be headed to Wyoming this summer, compared to the 4.899 I just paid to fill up, 4.479 looks pretty good. Cool
