All this talk about freezing temps got me to thinking.

So I looked up heated water hoses. Some or most of you may already know about this company but it was new to me. Seems to be a good product but pricey. One of those, if you need it then it's worth the money.

I'm thinking about getting one but money is tight right now so I'll have to wait. I may have to camp several days in cold temps and don't want to mess with the hose every morning and night.

Good grief, 250bucks for 15' hose. I can't see me getting one of those either. Since your hooked up to campground water, Can't you just leave the water running for free ? Or does that work in the 0' weather ?

That is a really cool idea, but they sure are proud of their hose. I can not believe how much they want for one.

In below freezing weather, its been my experience that you either freeze proof the hose, or you unhook it and drain it each night. Also, in the section that we lived in the water supply from the CG was one of those with hinged handle on top and the valve underground below frost level. The CG requested that the water be turned off on any night when the temperature would fall below freezing. Each supply valve had a little tag on it with that request.

We saw a few tries as freezproofing the valve/hose combination, most of which involved insulating the riser pipe and valve, and the hose right up to the RV's connection. Some of these had heat tape as well. If you left the water on you agreed to repay the CG for the cost of the valve repair if it froze.

To protect our Cat, we got one of those foam cups that HD and Lowe's sell to protect outdoor water spigets. We hung ours over the FW hose connection on the side of the trailer. Also, the exposed waste valves need to be protected or they will freeze too. Each night we would empty the grey and black-water tanks, taking care to flush the BW tank thoroughly. We also kept 2 one-gallon jugs of water in the loo to flush the commode and a gallon of fresh water in the kitchen for drinking. Fortunately in NC the days of hard freeze are very brief and the temps usually rose above 32*F by 9:00 a.m. when the sun was fully over the mountains that surrounded us.

I know it sounds like a pain, but that's the cost of living full time in one of the marginal freeze weather areas like NC.
