A Tough Decision

Post by Richard Mondavi on 2/19/2010, 4:27 pm

Dang, we had to make a tough decision this morning. Our favorite place to spend March, Island Retreat RV Park in Gulf Shores, AL called to tell us a site just opened up for the month of March. We told them thanks, but no thanks. We have decided to stick with the reservations we have at Bay Hide Away in Bay St. Louis, MS.

I really like Island Retreat and the snowbirds that spend the winter there. That was a really, really hard decision to make.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, worn out, and screaming, “WOO HOO, what a ride!”

When you are in MS make sure you drive down along the coast and see all the carving that was done on the trees in the medium in Gulfport. Take a camera you will want to take some pictures.

Thanks for the heads up, we'll be sure to do that.

I took pictures, they didn't turn out well. Next time we'll stop and get out of the car and get closer. The carvings are great. I believe they are what remains of some of the trees that were in the medians on highway 90. The carver made great use of the twisted shapes of the tree trunks.

Another thing we like to do. Drive all the way down the road where Bay Hide A Way is located. There is a large parking area along the shoreline. We like to go down there and just watch the waves splashing on the beach. Sometimes we even go to the casino.

Have a look at the Silver Slipper campground. I think it would be fun to stay there a night or two. It doesn't look very secure. Maybe a security drives through when making rounds through the parking lot.

Driving down the beach road from Silver Slipper to BSL, and along Hwy 90 to Ocean Springs is kind of sad. It's good to see that people are rebuilding.

We lived in Gulfport in the 80's.

This was the best photo I got of the carvings. Obviously, we need to stop and see the sculptures next time we go through there.

Thanks for the additional info S&T. We're really looking forward to visiting this area and spending a lot of time on the beach with an adult beverage. We're also looking forward to checking out the casinos in the area, even though we're very LOW rollers.
