Removing the hot water heater element

Post by conductor943 on 1/15/2010, 5:38 pm

Anybody had a problem with the water heater heating element breaking off when removing for winterizing ?
If so, any advice on how to remove it ?

The heating element? or the anode rod?

The only winterizing of the water heater is to remove the anode rod to drain the water water out.

Remember when removing the anode rod to release the pressure from the water tank first, or you might find that it will become a bullet .

Sorry, it's the anode rod.

No never had any problem, I did mark the size for the socket on the Wh so I would remember each year.

Are you sure it broke off? I've seem them disinigrate away. Look in the hole and see if you can see it. If you do use a set of mechanical fingers to go thru the hole and pull it out. It should come out of tank that way. Good luck fishing.

Mine came out without a hitch. The rod has to be replaced before the new season starts. Owners before us didn't keep the anode clean. Wished forest river would put Atwood hot water heaters in these rigs nothing to worry about.
