CTS improvements

Post by mountainmaxx on 4/25/2008, 4:30 am

I was wondering if anyone out there has found a way to hinge the lid for the CTS (central trash system) in the new wildcats??? I am trying to hinge it from the bottom so you can pull the lid up without seeing the hinges.

Have to think about this one, it will be difficult to hinge from the bottom because of the lip it rests on. You might be able to do it from the bottom by removing a portion of the lip but I'm afraid you wouldn't be able to open the lid completely.

A better bet I would think is to buy some small hinges and install them on the inside of the lip and the outer edge of the lid. It would still be pretty well hidden and fully functional. I'm pretty sure I've seen hinges small enough. The only issue might be having to remove some material from the surfaces to recess the butt plates of the hinges a little so that you can gain the necessary clearances.

Hopefully some of the talented people on here will be able to give you more ideas.

BTW: I like your truck, had a 96 like it and sure hated to let it go but there was no way I was making both those payments. The salesman stated they had a buyer for it in Colorado when I traded it...hmmmmm

Never mind on the 96 like it...now that I've seen the big picture, I realize that it's a bow tie rather than a blue oval. I need bigger eyes I think.

You could probably use a hinge like this one. http://www.cabinet-knob.com/catalog-product.php?p_ref=27693 You would still have to take away some of your supporting lip for the hinge plus add something to mount the hinge to but this should work great if you have a little carpentry skills.

My first thought was a European hinge but you have to drill a 35mm hole for the hinge. It has to be about 5/8 of an inch deep and would be hard to drill without coming through the countertop.
