Wanted

Post by timge on Fri May 02, 2008 5:53 am

For all you with aftermarket pinboxes, what did you do with the factory pinboxes. I am seriously considering switching my gooseneck adapter back to a 5th wheel which means I have to buy a hitch and a pinbox. I can't use my existing pinbox because the gooseneck adapter is welded all the way around, it's the way I bought it. That would be a lot of grinding and I'm afraid a lot of the plate would be gone. I am just wondering if there is anyone relatively close that has their old one laying around and they want to get rid of it for a decent sum.

Never hurts to ask Exclamation Basketball

Thanks thanks

If I was you instead of going back to stock just get the rotoflex from Tweety's. It would be better than stock.

Thanks for the offer, I need to check my frame, which I'm pretty sure is a Lippert 1621 to make sure they are the same. It appears through guesstimation of size and 150 lbs. that UPS shipping is about 250.00. I will have to ponder it as for another $200 I can get the Rota-Flex. I will let you know and again thanks for the offer.

It shouldn't be near that much for shipping..........I got my Fifth Airborne UPS'd to a business address and it was around $60.

And that is twice as heavy as a stock pinbox is.

I was a little shocked myself but that's what the UPS online calculator said using dimensions of 28"L X 12"W X 12"H and 150 lbs. My Wildcat is at the storage facility so I just kinda guessed and then found info somewhere that said shipping weight on the Fifth Airborne was 190 lbs so I just knocked about forty lbs off as an estimate. Returned $256+change as the shipping cost delivered to my residential address from a zip in Centennial, Co.. I dunno Shocked

Well I did it

Post by timge on Wed May 07, 2008 12:03 am

We decided to stimulate the economy. Ordered the B&W Companion Hitch and the Trailair Rota-Flex today. Spoke to Rod at Forest River who said they have had a lot of great comments on the Rota-Flex and he is sure I will be happy with it.

Thanks for the great offers on the pinboxes and they are posted here now so if anyone else has this dilemma they know you guys are a great help and may have something available to them. cheers sunny

Now for that Equa-Flex suspension evil

As I said earlier I ordered both the B&W Companion and the Rota-Flex on May 6th. If anyone is interested in the B&W or even some other products I would recommend RadAuto. I got the hitch for about $100 less than the cheapest place I could find on the internet, and that's after shipping. He has a web store as well but his eBay auctions are just unbelievably priced. He is based in Florida but does drop shipping and the hitch came out of Richardson Texas for me. Ordered the morning of the 6th and it was on my doorstep the afternoon of the 7th. thumbUp

He sells JT's stabilizers as well as Demco Glide Ride pin boxes, etc. king

Bought the Rota-Flex from Tweety's which is about 90 miles from me and it shipped from TrailAir in Indiana, took about a week.

Crazy world, bought from a Florida seller more than a thousand miles away, it shipped from Texas about 200 miles away and got it in a day. Bought from a Texas seller 90 miles away and it shipped from Indiana more than 1000 miles away and got here in 6 days. All bought online obviously. Keyboard

Hope to get it put on this weekend. wavesmilys

Will do. Was quite an experience getting it installed because it is such a tight fit. It took about 1 1/2 hours and it was only that quick because my neighbor came over to lend a hand. After we installed it I hauled the Cat to put new tires and wheels on (another story in another thread), back to the house and then to the storage facility which is about 4 miles away. I seldom noticed any chucking with the gooseneck but I feel it now. With that being said I still need to make some adjustments to the hitch setup before I form my final opinion. We don't have any trips planned until July when we will go locally for the 4th of July and planning to go to Taos a week after that.

I really like the B&W Companion concept but I have one concern. The turnover ball is designed to go either 3 inches or 6 inches in front of the axle. I had it mounted 3 inches in front of the axle for the gooseneck setup, but due to the offset with the Companion set up the fifth wheel kingpin will not go in that same spot. There is a lot of adjustment available with the Companion but the perfect location was the 3 inches in front of the axle, which gave me the most forward placement while still allowing me to open the tailgate. Now to have tailgate clearance the kingpin placement winds up behind the axle which is not a comfortable ride and increases the chucking effect. With the hitch turned to put the kingpin in front of the axle, I can't fully open the tailgate while hitching up and can't open it while the trailer is attached because it hits the light. I can live with that I guess but I will need to pull it in that configuration to check my clearances for corner strikes from the truck taillight area to the front of the trailer. I am going to have to do some trial and error with hopefully less error. affraid

The error part gets expensive.
