Island Retreat RV Park, Gulf Shores, AL
Island Retreat is a good park to stay at when visiting the Gulf Shores, AL area. It is a fairly large park with over 170 sites and just under two miles from the beautiful beach. There are a limited number of pull-through sites. The park roads are paved and each site has a level concrete pad for your trailer to sit on. Each site had its own picnic table. The were some shade trees but not many. The free WiFi worked very good and the cost of your site includes free cable TV too. The bathrooms and showers were very clean. The park has two laundry rooms that were well maintained. The swimming pool was clean and the park has a playground for the kids. The park also has a very nice kitchen equipped meeting room/clubhouse. There is a bike/hiking path that runs right by the front of the park for those interested in getting some daily exercise. The only negative I can say about this park is that they only had one dumpster area in the park. This is a snowbird park during the winter months so you might have trouble getting a site from January through the month of March.

Richard,
My family loves going to Gulf Shores, we usually go with family and rent condos. 2 miles is pretty darn close to the beach.
I can't tell from the pictures, how big are the camp sites? If I'm not being too nosey, what is the price of the site?
Thanks...

Re: Island Retreat RV Park, Gulf Shores, AL
The roomiest sites are on either side of the campground and the pull-throughs. Spacing side to side isn't too bad.
The nightly rate is $32.00 per night and weekly is $187.00 throughout the year. We usually spend a month there during the off-season and pay the monthly rate of $446.00 which is just under $15.00 bucks a night. In-season monthly is $560.00 and that is still under $19.00 a night. Not a bad deal considering it's full hookup and includes free wifi and cable TV hookup.
I keep thinking about selling our stick and brick house and living in the Wildcat for a couple of years in the Gulf Shores area. My wife and I really love the area.
Last March my wife and I marched in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Gulf Shores...well, it might have been more like a pub crawl. The parade started at Papa Rocco's B&G and was led by Bagpipers. We paraded over to Mud Bugs Pub where we all hoisted a beer and danced an Irish Jig. We then paraded to Gulf Shores Steamer Restaurant where we all hoisted a beer and danced an Irish Jig. From there we marched to DeSoto's Seafood Kitchen where we all hoisted a beer and danced an Irish Jig. By now long lines were forming at the bathrooms so we began staying at each stop a wee bit longer. Next we paraded over to the beach to the Pink Pony Pub where we hoisted a beer and tried to dance an Irish Jig. The last stop on the parade route was Gulf Island Grill and since it was 11:30 AM we all hoisted a beer and ate a lunch. A great time was had by all. We won't make it down there for St. Patty's Day this year since we're going to Egypt, but I think we'll head down there for the month of April. Retired life is tough.
Here I am hoisting a beer right before I danced my Irish Jig.

A shot of some of those participating in the parade.

Hey Richard, you need to post the pics of you DOING the Irish jig! You know you have them!!!
That parade sounds like fun, but I agree, it does sound more like a pub crawl; which thinking about it doesn't sound half bad!

Looks like you had a lot of fun!
Thanks for posting the review. We've never been to Gulf Shores, although we aren't very far from there right now. We're in Chattahoochee, FL.

Even if I did have pictures of me doing an jig I wouldn't post them on the Internet. People already think I'm a fool, so I don't want to add fuel to the fire.
Scruffy and Tater are in Florida? Now I am jealous. Did any of the recent cold weather reach that far south?

It got down to about 23 deg last night in Chattahoochee. Now we are near Leesburg, FL, and we are expecting a hard freeze. It should warm up somewhat in the next couple of days. Friday we move to WDW.
We live near Dallas. They are enjoying some warm weather right not, but that will change by the weekend.

We made reservations this month at Island Retreat. I can't wait for camping season! We just brought our new Wildcat home today. Everyone seems to have good reviews - so I hope we like it!
